How a safe swap works

Every swap starts at the breaker panel. We switch the circuit off, then check the wires at the ceiling with a voltage tester, because a switch being off is not proof the wires are dead. Only then does the old fan or fixture come down.

We match the new wiring to what is there, connect it with fresh wire nuts, and tuck the wires neatly into the box. Fans get assembled on the floor, hung on the bracket, then balanced so they do not wobble on high. Before we leave, we turn the power back on and run every speed, light and pull chain. Like-for-like switches and outlets can be swapped on the same visit at the hourly rate of $85.

High ceilings and multiple fixtures

Ceilings up to 10 feet are the standard rate of $159. High or vaulted ceilings start at $249, since they mean a taller ladder, more setup and often a longer downrod or a sloped ceiling adapter that comes with or is sold for your fan. We carry 6 foot and 12 foot stepladders and a 28 foot extension ladder, so tell us the ceiling height when you text.

Light fixtures are $99 for the first and $69 for each added one on the same visit. If you are replacing every fixture in a hallway or bathroom, doing them together costs less than doing them one at a time.

Where we stop and call an electrician

A fan can only go where a fan-rated box already exists. A plain light box is not built to hold a spinning fan, and a fan on the wrong box can loosen over time. If the box is not fan-rated, if there is no wiring at the spot you want, or if you need a new switch or circuit, that is work for a licensed electrician and we will refer you.

We do no panel work, no new circuits and no new wiring, including recessed lights that need new wiring. If we open a box and find aluminum wiring or scorched wires, we stop and tell you. That is a short conversation now instead of a bigger problem later.

The process

How A Ceiling Fans and Lights Job Goes

  1. Photo the ceiling box

Text a photo of the current fan or light, the ceiling height and, if you can, the box once the canopy is lowered.

  2. Written price first

We confirm the box looks fan-rated and quote the swap in writing before booking. If it needs an electrician, we tell you then.

  3. Power off, then swap

Breaker off, wires tested dead, old unit down, new one wired, hung and balanced. Then we test every speed and light.

  4. Photos and roof check

You get a before and after photo report and a free 5 minute roof and exterior check before we leave.

Questions

Ceiling Fans and Lights Questions

How much does it cost to replace a ceiling fan in Yukon?

Swapping a ceiling fan on an existing fan-rated box is $159 on ceilings up to 10 feet and $249 on high or vaulted ceilings, labor only. You supply the fan. If the box is not rated for a fan, we will tell you before we start.

Can a ceiling fan go where my light fixture is now?

Only if the box in the ceiling is fan-rated and anchored to carry a spinning fan. Many boxes built for a light are not. If yours is not, replacing or bracing the box is electrical work, and we will refer you to a licensed electrician. Once the box is in, we can hang the fan.

How do I tell if my ceiling box is fan-rated?

A fan-rated box is usually marked inside as acceptable for fan support, and it is fastened to framing or a brace bar, not just the drywall. Loosen the canopy, take a photo up into the box and text it to us. We check again in person before hanging anything.

Can you add a light where there is no wiring?

No. A new light, fan or switch where no wiring exists means new wiring, and possibly a new circuit. That is work for a licensed electrician. We stick to swaps on wiring and boxes that are already there, so you know exactly what you are paying for.

What if you find a problem inside the box?

If we see aluminum wiring, scorched or brittle insulation, or loose connections, we stop and show you. We will not hang a new fixture on wiring that looks unsafe. The fixture goes back to working condition if possible, and we refer you to a licensed electrician.
