Mailbox Installation and Repair in Yukon, OK
Mailbox post replacement in Yukon starts at $249 for labor, plus the mailbox and materials. That covers pulling the old post, setting a new one in concrete, and mounting the box at the height and curb setback the Postal Service publishes. Brick and stone mailbox repairs and cluster mailbox units are priced in writing from photos.
Starting at $249What Is Included
- Removing the old post and box, and hauling them off on the trailer
- A new post set in concrete, plumb and at the right depth
- The box mounted to the height and curb setback in the Postal Service guidance
- House numbers on the box, sized so a carrier can read them
- Repairs to brick and stone mailboxes, such as loose brick, a failed cap or a rusted insert
- Cluster mailbox units set on a pad for HOAs, builders and businesses
- Before and after photos in your job report
What Is Not
- Moving a mailbox to a new spot without the post office agreeing to it. Your carrier's route decides where a box can go.
- New brick or stone columns along a state highway, where the Oklahoma Department of Transportation does not allow rigid supports
- Wiring for a lit mailbox or a lamp post. That is electrical work, and we will refer you to a licensed electrician.
- Postal locks and keys. The Postal Service installs its own lock on a cluster unit.

Three kinds of mailbox, three kinds of job
Most homes on the west side have one of three setups, and each one is a different job.
Post-mount mailboxes are a box on a wood or metal post at the curb. They rot at the ground, get clipped by cars, and lean after a wet spring. A replacement is a half-day job at most: old post out, new post in concrete, box mounted and measured. See mailbox post replacement for the details.
Brick and stone mailboxes are masonry columns with a metal insert. They crack at the mortar joints, lose their caps, and rust out at the insert door. Most of that can be repaired without rebuilding the column. See brick and stone mailbox repair.
Cluster box units are the pedestal units with many locked compartments, used by newer neighborhoods, apartments and offices. They follow their own Postal Service rules. See cluster mailbox installation.
What the Postal Service asks for at the curb
The rules for a curbside box are short, and USPS publishes them on its mailbox installation page. We set every box to them:
- Height: 41 to 45 inches from the road surface to the bottom of the mailbox or the point of mail entry.
- Setback: 6 to 8 inches back from the curb. With no raised curb, USPS says to ask the local postmaster.
- Numbers: your house or apartment number on the box. If the box sits on a different street from the house, the full street address goes on it.
- The box itself: a box with the Postmaster General’s seal of approval meets USPS standards. A custom box needs the local postmaster to approve it.
We measure both numbers with the box mounted, not before, because the bracket and the slope of the yard change where the door ends up.
Posts that give way on purpose
A mailbox post should hold the box steady and still break or bend if a car hits it. USPS passes along a Federal Highway Administration recommendation for a 4 by 4 inch wooden support or a 2 inch diameter standard steel or aluminum pipe, buried no more than 24 inches deep. It advises against heavy metal pipes, concrete posts and farm equipment such as milk cans filled with concrete.
That is why we will not sink a steel I-beam or pour a solid concrete pillar for a box at the curb, even when a mailbox keeps getting hit. A post that does not move turns a fender bender into something worse.
If your home fronts a state highway, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation has its own guidance on what can stand in the right of way. Its brochure, Is my mailbox legal?, covers breakaway supports along state highways. It is an older document, so for a highway address we read it with you and call the ODOT maintenance office it lists before any work starts.
When a mailbox job is not ours
We do not relocate a box on our own say, because the post office decides where a carrier stops. We do not wire lights. And a brick mailbox that has been knocked flat is a rebuild, which we quote honestly against the cost of switching to a post-mount box. Ask us for both numbers.
The process
How A Mailbox Installation Job Goes
-
Send a photo of the curb
Text a photo of the mailbox from the street and one from the side. Tell us what happened to it and whether you already have the new box.
-
Firm price in writing
A standard post swap is the flat rate plus materials. Brick, stone and cluster jobs get a written quote before anything is booked.
-
We set it right
Buried utility lines get marked before we dig. Then the old post comes out, the new one goes in concrete, and the box is measured against the road surface and the curb.
-
Photo report
You get photos of the finished mailbox with the tape measure in the frame, so the height and setback are on record.

Mailbox Installation Questions
How much does it cost to replace a mailbox in Yukon?
A standard post replacement set in concrete is $249 for labor, plus the mailbox, post and concrete. If you supply the box and post, you pay for labor and concrete only. Materials we pick up are billed at cost plus 20%. Brick, stone and cluster mailbox work is quoted in writing from photos.
How high should a curbside mailbox be?
The Postal Service says to position the box 41 to 45 inches from the road surface to the bottom of the mailbox or the point of mail entry, and 6 to 8 inches back from the curb. If your street has no raised curb, USPS says to contact your local postmaster for guidance before the post goes in.
Can you put my mailbox in a different spot?
Sometimes. The Postal Service sets how and where mail is delivered on each route, so a new location needs the post office to agree first. Call your local post office, get the answer, and we will set the box where they approve. Replacing a box in the same spot does not raise that question.
A car hit my mailbox. What should I do first?
Take photos of the damage and the tire marks before anything is moved, and get the driver's details if you can. Then text us the photos. A snapped wooden post is usually a same-visit swap. A broken brick mailbox takes more time and gets its own written quote.
Do you install the locking mailboxes sold at home stores?
Yes. A locking curbside box mounts the same way as a standard one, on a post at the same height and setback. Look for the Postmaster General's seal of approval on the box, which means it meets USPS size and construction standards. Bring the box and we handle the post, the concrete and the mounting.
